01 · HOW IT MOVES
2D, 3D and 4D are about motion — not status.
01 / 06
2D usually moves vertically and laterally. 3D adds controllable in-and-out depth. 4D commonly adds changes in speed, rhythm or timing on top of depth control. Because “4D” is not one universal standard, compare the actual motion range and control logic.
Depth travelHow far the rollers can move toward or away from the body.
SurfaceDeep reach
2DPath
Up/down + side-to-side. Depth is essentially fixed by the mechanism.
3DDepth
Adds forward/back movement, giving the chair a way to vary pressure physically.
4DTiming
Usually adds changing speed, rhythm or dwell time so a stroke can feel less repetitive.
LOOK FOR
Actual depth range, smoothness, speed changes inside a stroke, body sensing and whether force can adapt by body area — not just the number before “D”.
02 · WHERE IT REACHES
The track decides which parts of you the rollers can actually reach.
02 / 06
A longer track can extend massage from the neck and back toward the glutes and upper thighs. Shape matters too: S-type tracks follow the spine; L/SL-type tracks generally extend farther into the seat.
Track lengthDrag it and watch the highlighted coverage move down the body.
Back-focusedExtended coverage
SSpine-contoured, usually back focused.
LExtends farther through the seat area.
SLCombines spinal contour with extended lower reach.
LOOK FOR
Do not compare length alone. Match the stated coverage to your height, track geometry and footrest extension. “Longer” only matters if it reaches the areas you care about comfortably.
03 · HOW IT WRAPS
Airbags are about coverage and choreography, not a counting contest.
03 / 06
Air compression adds broad contact around the body while the roller mechanism provides more focused movement. The meaningful questions are where the cells are placed, how many zones are independently controlled and how the inflation sequence is coordinated.
Air cellsUseful, but the score deliberately saturates as the count rises.
Independent zonesShoulders, arms, waist/hips, calves, feet and other separately controlled regions.
BETTER QUESTION
“Which areas are covered, can I tune them independently, and does the sequence complement the roller massage?” is more useful than “How many airbags?”
04 · WHAT IT KNOWS
More programs do not necessarily mean better massage.
04 / 06
A list of 40 programs can still be 40 variations of the same mechanical sequence. What matters more is where the movement logic came from, how pressure, rhythm, path and timing were captured, and whether the chair can adapt them rather than simply replay them.
Automatic programsCount has a small influence here by design.

THE PRINCIPLE
Count tells you how many buttons exist. Provenance and choreography tell you whether those buttons contain meaningful massage.
05 · DOES IT FIT YOU?
The best mechanism still needs to meet the right body.
05 / 06
Height range, shoulder position, seat width, footrest extension and body scan all influence whether the mechanism lands where it was intended. Use these controls as a fit demonstration, not as a substitute for a model’s published limits.
Your heightDemo input

Usable seat widthMeasure the usable inner width, not the outer shell.
Footrest extensionUseful for taller users and shared household use.
FIT RESULTComfortable range
The demo body is within the stated height range with useful extension reserve.
06 · WILL IT ENTER YOUR HOME?
Measure the route in — not just the final corner.
06 / 06
The narrowest doorway, corridor turn, elevator, stair landing and final placement all matter. Compare delivery width with the narrowest access point, then check reclined depth and wall clearance where the chair will live.

BEFORE DELIVERY
Use the product’s packed or delivery dimensions when available. Removable side panels can change the true minimum access width, so confirm the manufacturer’s delivery specification rather than guessing from the chair’s outer width.
THE SHORT VERSION
Read a massage chair spec sheet in this order.
01Massage logic
Human expertise, motion data, sequencing and adaptability.
02Mechanism
Depth range, speed/rhythm control, sensing and smoothness.
03Coverage
Track geometry and whether it reaches the areas you care about.
04Fit
Your body first, then the doorway, route and room.
